Accessible component library for government services

A GOV.UK-compliant Angular component library and the large-scale applications built on it, with an accessibility-first, fully tested approach.

Accessible component library for government services

The brief

Government services have to work for everyone: every browser, every assistive technology, every level of confidence with a computer. The Ministry of Justice needed a shared front-end component library that encoded the GOV.UK Design System and accessibility guidelines once, so every team building on it inherited them by default.

What we built

  • The component library itself: Angular components following the GOV.UK Design System and WCAG guidance, with accessibility treated as a functional requirement rather than a checklist at the end.
  • A testing culture with 100% coverage as the bar: unit tests on Jest, end-to-end on Protractor, and accessibility checks as part of the pipeline.
  • Large-scale applications on top of the library, with NgRx state management for complex, long-running user journeys.

Outcome

Two and a half years embedded in MoJ digital teams, delivering components and services used by the public and by staff across the justice system.
