The brief
PubliWrite wanted a single place where authors write together, publish in print and ebook, and sell directly to readers. That meant a real-time editor, a publishing pipeline that ends in a physical book, and payments that pay authors out, all in one product.
What we built
- A five-app Nx monorepo on the Next.js 16 App Router with Partial Prerendering and React 19: marketplace, author dashboard, collaborative editor, admin and rights management, sharing one design system and one typed GraphQL client.
- The real-time co-authoring editor on PlateJS/Slate with Yjs and Hocuspocus, including version history and comments, plus an in-editor AI writing assistant with streamed responses and guardrails.
- The publishing pipeline: a canvas cover builder with 3D preview and print-ready PDF export, ISBN registration, print-on-demand, EPUB generation and a Puck-based storefront builder for authors.
- Payments end to end: Stripe Checkout and subscriptions, Stripe Connect payouts to authors, and crypto checkout through Helio and the Solana wallet adapter.
- Backend and infrastructure: federated GraphQL (Apollo gateway and subgraphs, consumed with urql and gql.tada codegen), NestJS services on Prisma and BullMQ, Chromium PDF renderers on AWS Lambda, and the surrounding AWS estate (Cognito, CloudFront, API Gateway, S3) managed with Terraform and deployed through GitHub Actions.
Outcome
The platform is live and in active development, with authors co-writing, publishing and selling on it today. We continue to lead engineering on the product.
