Theory Test Passed

A UK driving-theory learning product taken from an empty repository to a live web and mobile business, including hosting, SEO and growth.

Theory Test Passed

The brief

Our own product, and the clearest example of how we work when we own the whole thing: learners revising for the DVSA theory test needed a product that works equally well in a browser and on a phone, with one purchase covering both.

What we built

  • One codebase, two clients: a Next.js 15 App Router web app and an Expo/React Native mobile app sharing a pnpm monorepo of tRPC, Prisma and better-auth packages, with email, Google and Apple sign-in.
  • Monetisation through Stripe on the web and RevenueCat in-app purchases on mobile, reconciled through webhooks so a lifetime purchase for a vehicle category unlocks everywhere.
  • Search visibility from zero: a technical SEO overhaul (sitemaps, canonical host, JSON-LD rich results, IndexNow) and programmatic pages generated from DVSA data: every test centre, every road-sign category, six language landing pages and free tools such as a mock test and a revision planner.
  • An AI-driven content engine that drafts, reviews and publishes articles into a self-hosted Ghost instance, feeding the programmatic pages.
  • Growth loops and analytics: double opt-in email capture with Resend, PostHog product analytics and error tracking, all self-hosted on Hetzner behind Dokploy and Traefik.

Outcome

Live on the web and in both app stores, growing organically on search with no paid acquisition. Everything on this page, from the hosting to the analytics, is the same setup we recommend to clients.
